Knucklehead from Peachy Canyon Winery, Saddleback Cellars and JR Wines
It’s good to be a Knucklehead- at least if you are an ancient Sierra Foothills Zinfandel vineyard. Head pruning leaves these vines twisted like old, contorted knuckles, making it easy to recognize these vineyards. More importantly, this helps produce small clusters of intensely flavored fruit. After hand harvesting, this fruit goes through an extended fermentation that concentrates the dark berry and spice flavors which are then enhanced by barrel aging.
When traveling to Egypt in 2009, before the ZAP cruise, these self-appointed Knuckleheads literally put their heads together. As a result, Doug Beckett, Nils Venge, and John Ramsey—are releasing their 2012 Knucklehead Red!
This blend of their choice Zinfandels, is only available in a beautifully etched bottle. Zinfandel blend master, Nils has delicately merged juice from multiple regions for a lip-smacking, tummy-pleasing Zinfandel taste sensation.
