Item Description

Satyagrah is a term comprising two words; satya or truth, and agrah or insistence. Hence, in its loose English interpretation, satyagrah means insistence on truth. In practice, however, satyagrah transpired into nonviolent resistance, passive resistance or civil resistance as a form of mass protest against the State. Gandhiji sometimes also referred to it as truth force or soul force. The practice was so successful in the Indian independence movement that Martin Luther King Jr. emulated it for the American Civil Rights Movement, and so did Nelson Mandela to protest against South African apartheid. - Gandhi Research Foundation

Quotes:

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony."

"I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent."

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it -- always."

"You must be the change you want to see in the world."
