Item Description
12 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter
Texas Potter Carl Block has a true unique style for contemporary southern pottery. Color and creativity truly are two things that most definitely apply to his style. Much of Carl's embracing of color, is based upon childhood trips he took into Mexico with his family, where he witnessed this same tradition in Mexican folk art. Carl is particularly famous for his face jugs and most famous for his Adam & Eve versions. He is known for his congeniality with his fellow southern potter community. Carl Block has been active in Texas for about 30 years.
Carl Block's pottery is known as flat lander pottery. He uses many bright colored glazes on most all of his work. He also likes to use many eyes, while they are looking at you!
Among Block’s vast accomplishments, his work is featured in permanent art collections including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., Rice University, The University of Houston, The Chinati Foundation, and the personal collection of former president George H. Bush, to name a few.
