Item Description

An interesting story traces the origins of the dish to Mumtaz Mahal (1593-1631), Shah Jahan’s queen who inspired the Taj Mahal. It is said that she once visited army barracks and found the army personnel under-nourished. She asked the chef to prepare a special dish which provided balanced nutrition, and thus the biryani was created.

A world-renowned Pakistani/Indian dish, Biryani takes time and practice to make but is worth every bit of the effort. Long-grained rice (like Basmati) flavored with exotic spices like saffron is layered with chicken cooked in a thick gravy. The vessel is then covered, lid sealed on with dough and the biryani is cooked on a low flame.

This is definitely a special occasion dish!!
