Item Description
Enjoy a VIP Tour for four of the The Costume Institute Exhibition “China: Through the Looking Glass,” the inspiration for the theme of this year's celebrity-studded Met Ball! The winner of this auction will receive copies of the catalogue inscribed by the curator, Andrew Bolton, and enjoy lunch in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Members Dining Room, which offers full waiter service of contemporary American cuisine in a sophisticated, elegant setting with expansive views of Central Park.
About the Exhibit:
"China: Through the Looking Glass," organized by the Costume Insitute in collaboration with the Deparment of Asian Art, will explore the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion, and how China has fueled the fashionable imagination for centuries. High fashion will be juxtaposed with Chinese costumes, paintings, porcelains, and other art, including films, to reveal enchanting reflections of Chinese imagery.
The exhibition will feature more than one hundred examples of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear alongside Chinese art. Filmic representations of China will be incorporated throughout to reveal how our visions of China are framed by narratives that draw upon popular culture, and also to recognize the importance of cinema as a medium through which to understand the richness of Chinese history.
Item Special Note
Winner will coordinate with organizer to schedule the weekday afternoon visit of their choice. Tour must be scheduled on a weekday after May 6 and before August 14. Blackout dates may apply.
