Item Description
The Sari is the epitome of female dress in both north and south regions of India. It was designed to accentuate the curves of the female form and gave a canvas for the ultimate form of embellishment. Some saris are silk and shot through with real gold and silver threads, and some are lightweight cotton chiffon or batiste for the more casual wear. All saris, unless custom made for a smaller or larger woman or girl, measure about 15' in length. Usual draping of a sari goes over an underskirt and a cropped blouse. The skirt is pleated and tucked into the front waistband before being brought around the body and up and over one shoulder. Usually the exposed edge and tail end of the sari are a more intricate pattern than the body of the sari.
That being said, this auction is for a lightweight cotton batiste sari in a pale green with dimensional embroidered patterns on both the body and the and the trims.
