Item Description

Medium: Acrylic

Artist: Sharon Michaelsen

Artist Vision: The curves and grace of the cello caused me to decide on a graceful and delicate design in Norwegian rosemaling, an art form that originated in Norway. The word "rosemaling" translates to mean "rose painting." It also seemed an appropriate design choice for me as my maternal grandmother was Norwegian.

Item Special Note

Artist Biography: Two passions merge for Sharon Michaelsen in the painting of the cello. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in music, but art has co-existed in importance to her. She has studied both art and music in many parts of the country; taught in Michigan and Illinois; had the joy of playing the organ in the National Cathedral in Washington, DC; has received numerous awards for pastel portraits of children and pen and ink drawings of cathedrals and Victorian homes; has paintings in private collections in Greece, Norway, and the U.S.; painted a violin for the Midori celebration for the QCSO four years ago; and has been an active member of the Geneseo Art League for over 35 years.
