Angela Shankar, a native of Cleveland, OH, is an active freelance clarinetist and music educator in New York City. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Clarinet Performance and Music Education from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Music Degree in Clarinet Performance with an Arts Leadership Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where she was the distinguished recipient of the Performer’s Certificate. An accomplished clarinetist, she has played with the Mobile Symphony, the Ohio Light Opera Company, the International Opera Theatre Orchestra of Italy, the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, the Point Chamber Orchestra, the Syracuse Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's Chamber Ensemble. Additionally, she has participated in the Music Festival of Lucca, Italy, the Bay View Music Festival in Petoskey, MI, and the Pierre Monteux School in Hancock, Maine. She has won several concerto competitions and has performed on NPR’s “From the Top” at the Library of Congress and at Carnegie Hall. She currently enjoys performing with The Chelsea Symphony and the Utopia Winds.

A passionate educator, Angela enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities. As a graduate student, she received Eastman's prestigious teaching award for clarinet methods classroom instruction and was additionally awarded the Jack L. Frank Instruction Award by the Eastman Community Music School.
