Marilyn Blinkhorn Artist Statement / Bio:
I have made a journey of art throughout my life. As a child in Massachusetts, I painted with watercolor and colored pencil. I developed light filled gouache works while traveling through Mexico and the Southwest as a young adult. I have painted genre themes based on life situations of people I have known. While living in Vermont, I used palettes of color inspired by the woods and mountains. I have painted the blues of the sea and the gray green wetness of the rocks in coastal Maine.
Throughout the years, I have been using watercolor in a non- traditional manner. I have recently begun to work with both watercolor and acrylics to produce more richness and variety in surface textures. I rely on my environment for inspiration. Depending on what I first perceive visually, I begin to construct a painting based on a color relationship, or an interaction of shapes, or the interplay of textures.
My work has grown from traditional, to realist, to my own contemporary style with roots in Modernism. It has been a gratifying journey...and I am happy to continue to explore and create with paint.
