Item Description

Located in Rumney, the Polar Caves are granite boulder caves, with
boardwalks carving a unique path through nine caves, though a visit involves much more than a series of caves. There is an animal area, a Rock Garden, BBQ/Picnic, a pine forest, and an opportunity to learn about maple collecting techniques from the past.

The Polar Caves are set on a cliff surrounded by a Pine forest. Most
people choose to explore the caves at their own pace with a self-guided tour, though guided tours are available for those interested in learning more about the caves and park.

Learn why New Hampshire is called the Granite State and how granite was originally harvested.  Learn how maple sap is collected and how it was used to make maple syrup in the earlier days in the Maple Museum.  Find gems, minerals and fossils in our mining sluice or hunt for crystals in the dark Klondike mines.

Passes are good for the 2015 season. The park is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Item Special Note

The Polar Caves were formed about fifty thousand years ago as the third continental glacier descended over New Hampshire’s White Mountains. When the ice retreated, it left behind an amazing series of caves and passageways for visitors to explore.
