Choice of two talks, each with copious video clips, each about an hour:
“The History of Ha!” – How comedy went from Ancient Greece to “Modern Family”, court jesters to Groucho Marx, Plato & Aristotle to Abbott & Costello. With stops along the way for commedia dell’arte, and how comedy killed Abraham Lincoln.
“The World of Musical Satire”, including Tom Lehrer, Chuck Berry, Randy Newman, “South Park”, Weird Al, Bugs Bunny and Gilbert & Sullivan.
David’s taught and lectured on comedy all around the world, at USC, UCLA, the Smithsonian, Yale, Oxford, VIEW Cinema Conference (Torino, Italy), University of Sydney (Australia), Skirball Cultural Center, the New York, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles Public Libraries, and the KPCC Crawford Family Forum.
