Item Description
This beautiful quilt was lovingly and artfully made by Dorothee Maxie. The pattern for this quilt is called Sophie’s Windows. It was machine pieced, long-arm quilted, and hand bound.
Dorothee Maxie was initially making this quilt for herself. At the time, her husband was very ill and was very restless at night, unable to sleep. Medications were no longer effective for him. He found the sound of her sewing machine very soothing, so she would get up when he couldn’t sleep and work on this quilt, showing him her progress as she went along. Her husband passed and Dorothee decided that she wanted to share this work of art.
Dorothee is a friend of one of our Richmond puppy raisers, Joyce Dixon, and loves the mission of Guiding Eyes for the Blind. When her husband passed away, she wanted to pay it forward and decided to donate it to our Region.
Quilt measures approximately 98" x 108".
