Item Description
Bring home a part of opera's and musical theatre's beloved soprano, Patricia Neway's, prized, personal collection of recordings-- seven (7) vinyl records including Patricia Neway Soprano in a Recital of Songs, Iphigénie en Tauride, Music of Samuel Barber, Joy to the World, Songs by Horace Middleton, Maria Golovin and Songs to Texts by James Joyce.
Neway was one of the few performers of her day to enjoy equal success on both the opera and musical theatre stages. Critic Emily Langer of The Washington Post wrote that, "Neway was a rare type of singer — one with the classical training and raw vocal strength to meet the demands of opera as well as the acting talent and appeal required to succeed in musical theater. She is particularly remembered for creating roles in the world premieres of several contemporary American operas, most notably Magda Sorel in Gian Carlo Menotti's The Consul. On Broadway she won a Tony Award for her portrayal of the Mother Abbess in the original production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music.
Item Special Note
**Donated by Neway's nephew, he could think of nothing she would like more than her personal items helping musical theatre thrive.
