1979 first edition published by Scottish Academic Press Edinburgh. This hardcover book is in excellent condition. Full red morocco with raised bands, gilt spine rules, cover title and marbled end papers. It is illustrated with color photo frontispiece, 6 color plates plus drawings, 29 examples of hackles mounted at the rear of the book and plain maroon paper-covered board slipcase. The book is bound by A.W. Lumsden with their name in gilt inside rear cover. Publisher's letter-head announcement laid in - spectacular example and one of only a handful of books to contain actual fly tying materials. Elder died before publication in 1977 and the production was seen through to completion by his son. (With thanks to Dave Foley of David Foley Sporting Books for his assistance with the description).
