Item Description
Victoria Tamas Laughing Maya
Artist Statement Clay Art
This Folk Art Menorah is a unique piece for celebrating the Festival of Lights. Based on an ancient Armenian folk design, this round menorah is meant to be placed at the center of your gathering, each person seeing it from a different side—it’s hard not to form a circle in its candlelight. The decorations draw on inspiration from nature and influenced by the art of my Hungarian grandmother Maria (for whom Laughing Maya is named).
This piece was wheel-thrown of white stoneware and porcelain with sgrafitto hand-carved design. Signed with Hebrew initials and the year 5774. Inside each of my menorahs there is a small bit of sand and salt from the Dead Sea; tilt it gently and you can hear it in there.
Seven inches high; includes sturdy gift box and packaging.
