US College Financial Aid Consultation for ACAs

Item Number

Estimated Value
600 USD
Opening Bid
200 USD

Item Description

Marilyn Stelzner is an ACA living in Switzerland and working as an independent university adviser for students applying to university in the US, UK, and other English language bachelor programs. She is distressed by the unique financial challenges facing some ACAs applying to college in the US (see Special Note below), and has researched and organized presentations on the issues and recommended strategies. The expected bidders on this consultation package are parents (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) of students who hope to attend university in the US and who want to understand potential financial aid options and challenges. It is best to get a handle on these issues at least 3 - 5 years before the student starts university. The consultation package includes an explanation of the basic financial aid processes, understanding the student and family's specific background and situation, Skyping with the family to discuss possible strategies and answer questions, and delivery of a written plan with an explanation of the student's advantages and challenges in the process, a timeline, checklist, and pointers to specific resources.

Item Special Note

Not all US citizens living abroad and anxious to attend university in the US have families on hefty expat packages or fancy cars in the garage. Although not officially international students, ACAs may still face the challenges of presenting lesser known qualifications from a national school, curriculum, and language. They also typically lack access to in-state tuition at public colleges and universities and are ineligible for many of the scholarships offered regionally in the US. Understanding how the process works ahead of time helps families to navigate it more successfully and increases the chances that college in the US will be affordable.
