“Anne Page and Slender”
This 1892 Lithograph, was engraved by George August Periam after artist Sir Augustus Wall Callcott. This is a beautiful bookplate from the 1st American Edition of Character Sketches of Romance, Fiction, and the Drama by E. Cobham Brewer. It is printed on heavy paper and depicts a scene from Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor. The sheet size is 8.5” by 11.5” and the image is about 6.5” x 9”. The tissue guard that has covered this picture for the last 120 years, and features an excerpt from the play.
"Miranda and Ferdinand" from The Tempest
This etching is based on artist Robert Edge Pine’s painting and mezzontint engraved by Caroline Watson. This is an original bookplate (not a modern reproduction) rescued from the book Character Sketches of Ramance Fiction and the Drama, published by Selmar Hess in 1892. The sheet size is 8.5” by 11.5” and the image is about 6.5” x 9”. The tissue guard that has covered this picture for the last 120 years, and features an excerpt from the play, will be included.
Both simply framed for protection.
