Ludwig Sohler was born in Senden-Iller, Swabia, October 7, 1907, the son of a stationmaster of German railways. Prior to studing art, he received professional training as a mechanical engineer. Later he studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts under the well known landscape artists Sebastian Bacher and Arno Lemke. Trips to France, especially Paris, influenced the development of his moderate impressionism style for which his works are known. His art was held in many leading galleries of Germany and other countries including the United States.
