Item Description

ibu sells handmade clothing and home decor handmade by women artisans all over the world. ibu means a woman of respect, and we are working to empower women all over the world. This beautiful outfit includes a ruana handmade in the remote villages of Nagaland in far Northeast India. Naga native Tiala Neufeld has returned to reinvigorate an almost extinct weaving tradition among the tribal people there. In a new collaborative effort with ibu Movement, Tiala is designing with our creative team and re-introducing the natural dyeing of cotton, the cultural language of cloth that was her birthright. Each tribe carries potent images in its weaving, which are carried forward in styles made exclusively for ibu. Indian coin and African hip necklaces finish off the ensemble. The Indian coin necklaces are made up of vintage Indian coins, making each one utterly unique. The African hip necklaces are made from former LPs! Shades of red, black and green are finely cut to create the ultimate in recycling. Layered together, these necklaces make Bold! beyond beautiful.
