Item Description

Tina Fung Holder harvests local plants to weave into beautiful baskets and hats. This fedora is dynamic, stylish, and fedorable, and it can be worn by men or women.

Using strip plaiting and hand-sewing, cattail leaves become this charming headwear.  Traditional Native American finger weaving is the technique used to create the hat band. With local materials and a native technique this hat is truly AMERICAN MADE. It is also very durable, lasting many years.

Tina's work is in the permanent collection of many museums including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her fedora hats are popular among the North House Folk School community, where she is an instructor.

Since 1996, Tina has lived and worked in northwest Wisconsin, after leaving the urban city life in Chicago. While pursuing her formal education in Chicago, Tina did extensive research in basketry techniques at the Field Museum. Since moving to the north woods, she has explored both traditional and new applications of the available natural materials, and thinks that anything that grows flexible is fair game. Tina enjoys developing new basket designs and teaching them in workshops. Her basketry is sold in galleries in the region.
