Item Description

Certificate for one week of Youth Sailing Camp at the Downtown Sailing Center. You may choose any one week session, which will run the weeks of June 13, 2016 through August 22, 2016. Certificate is good for one camper, ages 8-16.

Camp Description:

The DSC has taken the best of our Access Dinghy Camps and J/22 Camps to provide the optimum balance of fun and learning in a safe, high-energy package. Our Junior Summer Camp seamlessly blends sailing education with fun activities. Your child will learn to sail in a safe environment, but they will also have the opportunity to be kids and to have fun!

Beginners will split their time evenly between our Access Dinghies and our J/22s as they learn the basics of sailing through an experiential environment. Intermediate sailors will spend more time honing their sailing skills and sailing knowledge through more in-depth chalk talks and more focused sailing on the J/22s. Advanced sailors will work toward sailing the J/22s on their own, developing the skills and confidence they need to skipper and crew on larger, faster boats.

Every sailor will receive their own personal copy of the US Sailing's Little Red Book and have the opportunity to advance through the book as they develop their skills in light, medium, and heavy winds.

Weekly activities include:

  • Four Square - The de facto camp game, played during every break and after lunch!
  • "Fort Run" - Every week, our campers will race out to Fort McHenry in our J/22s, accompanied by power boat support.
  • "BOP Day" - Typically held on Wednesdays, our sailors take a trip over to Historic Fells Point to enjoy classic brick oven pizza on 'The Square'. Sailors are welcome to bring their own lunches and enjoy the relaxing lunch.
  • "Regatta Day" - Typically held on Thursday afternoons, all of our campers mix it up with fun, spirited racing on the Harbor. Depending on the group size, racing may be held in our Access Dinghies or in our fleet of J/22s.
  • Rainy Day Movies - Got rain? Not a problem! Our campers enjoy great classics like Wind,Finding Nemo,Pirates of the Caribbean,White Squall,Morning Light and the new favorite Maiden Voyage. Our staff keeps the movies age-appropriate, so you can rest assured you child doesn't bring home anything new other than sailing skills.
  • STEM modules - Simple Machines, Anemometers, Water Quality Testing, Clay Boats, and Sail Area are just a sampling of the no-wind activities we incorporate into our weekly camp.
