Violinist Alan Busteed has a history of jazz composition and improvisation
dating back to the eighties. While in graduate school at UMASS Amherst he
was coached by pianist Billy Taylor and saxophonist Yusef Lateef. While
serving as a first violinist in the Florida Symphony Orchestra, Alan studied
under modern jazz trumpeter Don Cherry. As solo violinist for the Mmadu
Onyawa Jazz Quartet he presented a series of concerts through the
Universidad lnteramericana de Puerto Rico.
Alan has performed with the Fania All Stars salsa band in Caracas, Venezuela,
and "traded fours" with Cuban singer Celia Cruz in concert. As concertmaster
of the pop string section for Mexican vocalist and composer Marco Antonio
Solis, he has given concerts on both coasts of the USA. Alan has been
concertmaster and improvisational solo violinist for independent motion picture
scoring in Los Angeles. He has done film scoring as a violist for the Oscar
winning movie "Up" with music by Michael Giaccino and played on blockbuster
films including Mission Impossible and Star Trek editions, can be heard on
2014's Dawn of The Planet of The Apes score. His composer credits include
prime time television work for CBS. He performs regularly with Los Angeles
based Tinto Tango, the almost-all-Argentinian tango group, with bandoneon
player Mariano Dugatkin.
Alan Busteed has performed concert soloist with orchestra on three continents.
His recent chamber music credits throughout the Southwestern USA have
taken him to dozens of venues with different groups, including Trio del Mar, a
classical piano trio with cellist Ruslan Biryukov and pianist Mary Au. This
spring he was featured soloist in a benefit concert for the Los Angeles
Philharmonic. He has toured nationally with the Hutchins Consort of specially
designed scaled violins and concertized with the New York based groups
Ensemble Sepia and Orion Piano Trio.
