Item Description
These pieces, made for the US Navy from the late 1890's through the 1940's were absolutely stunningly elegant and literally made for fine dining and entertaining for formal dining and hosting dignitarioes from all over the world.
The piece we have is a rectagular serving tray with rope style trim, a fouled anchor and USN Insignia. It is very heavy! On eBay these trays sell from $200 to $350.
Silver Soldered Holloware pieces were made to be durable! Items were first formed from a base metal. The base material back then was usually copper but some pieces were steel base material. Brass can also be used as a base. Handles, footings and finials were silver-soldered onto the piece.
The "V" Mark on underside indicates it was made in 1942.
Measures 13" x 17" and aprox. 1/2" deep.
