"AUTUMN"
"Etched in darkness, illuminating against the backdrop of silence, a golden
leaf commences its journey from the height of the tree. Swirling and whirling, it is
caught up momentarily in a wave of air, as if guided by a skilled pilot...of which it is.
The moon, in full face, smiles down and zooms in for a closer view, as its fin-
gers caress the leaf with its robe of lightness. The leaf, enjoying the bath of light,
expresses its final gesture by reflecting back to the moon its golden shell and deli-
cately veined center, sketched with five paths.
Witnessed and absorbed, the light carries slowly onward, sufficiently fulfilled.
The leaf, newly engulfed in darkness, closes up its points and embraces itself. Its
mission accomplished, its duty complete."
(Written October 31, 1987 in New York City, when Janine was 24 years old)
