Item Description
Playin’ Around South Orange was thrilled to have Lawrence Ciarallo back to paint another baby grand piano this year. Mac’s inspiration for his “portrait piano” is Malcolm John “Mac” Rebennack, a.k.a. Dr. John, an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and most notably pianist. Best known for his combination of blues, jazz, pop, zydeco, boogie-woogie and rock and roll, Dr. John was a native of New Orleans whose work often featured references to the voodoo and Creole cultures. His portrait sits atop the piano lid surrounded by vibrant splashes of color and one token fluer de lis on the side. With a definite contemporary feel and celebratory air about it, this piano pays tribute to a great musician as it simultaneously lights up the town.
