Item Description
Enjoy an evening of your choosing with Charleston's favorite chanteuse, the Divine Miss Peggy Lewis with piano accompaniment. Have the best entertainment in town for your next gathering!
Peggy Lewis has been performing professionally as a singer, musician and songwriter since her youth in Magnolia, Arkansas. Her early TV appearances were on the Vic Ames Show, the Snooky Lanson Show, the Sounds of Memphis Special, and The Seven Teens.
After attending a girls college in Washington, DC. where she recorded two folk albums with "The Travelers," she was awarded an opera workshop scholarship to the University of Arkansas. After graduation she continued her academic, musical, and sports career in graduate school. A golf scholarship to the University of Denver allowed her to head to the links (instead of class!) to bring honor to the University. Then, another graduate scholarship called her to Memphis State University. From that point on she worked her way west, sing in in jazz clubs and cabaret rooms, ending up in Hawaii sing in at the Green Turtle which was a jazz club.
Time goes by...fast forward...on to Manhattan. There she sang in clubs (Village Gate, Village Vanguard, etc.), in a studio as a demo singer (Right Track), with big bands (Alex Donner Orchestra), and she wrote several jingles for major companies.
One of her favorite gigs was at the Station at Water Mill, New York. In August, on Saturday nights, she entertained in the club car playing the piano, accordion and 12-string guitar while "rendering" her original tunes.
When she moved back to the South a few years ago, she landed in Charleston, SC. She now devotes her cabaret shows to benefitting the arts. She has been featured in several fundraisers in support of local organizations like Spoleto Festival USA, the Gibbes Museum of Art and now the College of Charleston School of the Arts!
Peggy is a resident of Charleston, SC, but still summers in Southampton, and yes, she is still farming in Magnolia!
