Item Description
Throughout the ages, hallah bakers have exercised great creativity and taken pride in their beautiful loaves, considered offerings in honor of the Sabbath. The hallah is covered by a special embroidered cloth, which symbolizes the dew that covered and protected the manna in the desert. A popular folk interpretation claims that the cover spares the hallah embarrassment since its blessing comes last in the ceremony before the Sabbath meal. The hallah also represents the Sabbath bride, who is veiled until her blessing is recited." |
