Bartur & Wade’s current work revolves around imagery of icon from the famed Kobal Collection as it relates to film, photography and culture. The work investigates the underlying message of icon and how external influencers have manipulated and branded icon in exploiting and influencing their subjects. The work created by Bartur & Wade forms compositions of tiny repetitive images that slightly differ from image to image. These smaller images combined together create the completed finished work. On closer inspection the viewer realizes the smaller images are indeed significant to the overall work. They tell a story of manipulation, an investigation into the external characters who influenced the host and ultimately defined the icon. There is a playful dialogue between the chosen image that inhabits the larger celebrity. This exploration and representation of what could be defined as a sacred or sanctified personage where the redefined icon takes on a more religious and symbolic presence for the viewer devotee.
