Item Description

Located on Hwy 61, Naniboujou Lodge is a historic and beautiful place to spend an evening, or more, along the shore of Lake Superior. This item is valid for a dinner for two in the wondrously painted dining room.

The dining room was painted by a French artist, Antoine Goufee, who painted Cree Indian designs over the walls and the twenty-foot-high domed ceiling (resembling the shape of a canoe). Guests marvel at its originality. "It's straight from an Agatha Christie mystery novel," wrote Tom Clifford in 1972. "The almost psychedelic Cree Indian designs covering the walls and ceiling are like a North Woods answer to the Sistine Chapel." This work of art continually amazes and intrigues, echoing the elegance and style of another era. Naniboujou is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The Lodge boasts Minnesota's largest native rock fireplace, a 200 ton work of art which stands in the 30 x 80 foot Great Hall.

Naniboujou is open daily to the public from the third week in May until the third week in October. Visit the  Naniboujou Lodge website for more information.
