Item Description
Lovingly handcrafted using willow found and harvested in Cook County, Minnesota, this basket with a side handle is meant to be carried and filled with the finest treasures. Following traditional European style stake-and-strand techniques, Emily Derke incorporates the natural color of the willow into the design and pattern of this functional piece of artwork.
Emily Derke, a former intern at North House Folk School, has been exploring traditional craft since she was a teenager. She loves basketry for its simple beauty, utility, and ability to reflect natural resources in aesthetically interesting ways. Her work explores aspects of color, symmetry, and pattern work which hopefully cause the viewer to pause and reflect on the capability of nature to surprise us.
Item Special Note
Basket is 12" high (including handle) by 9" wide. Item may be picked up at North House Folk School or winner is responsible for cost of shipping.
