TRIPLE TRIBUTE- This painting symbolizes Lynnfield Art Guild's impact on younger and older artists and audiences in the north of Boston region.
FRAME the FUTURE aims to raise three scholarships at $500 each, why?
Karas donation in honor of LAG's 50th year comes with a triple tribute:
1) Ed Carey took me to my first artist demonstration available to students:
"Residing in Marblehead, Ed Carey was the Art Teacher at Peabody High School when I attended. He was a watercolorist and LAG member. If my memory serves me correctly, he was also a LAG board member."
"Mr. Carey, my tenth and eleventh grade art teacher, recognized I had an aptitude for drawing and painting and was an early influence and mentor. He encouraged and tried to prepare me to apply to the best art schools and colleges. Tragically, Ed Carey died of a form of Leukemia before my senior year. He was only in his early-30s and left his wife and young children."
"I will never forget him and wish he could have seen how far I've come. Ed Carey was the one who made me aware of the Lynnfield Art Guild. I joined that very evening."
A note on why it changed Michael Karas' life:
"I was primarily a watercolorist at that early time. The featured guest artist who did a watercolor painting demonstration that evening was Nationally acclaimed artist, Don Stone, from Rockport, MA. Being just a kid, I'd never heard of him at the time, nor had I ever seen an art demo before. I learned a lot that night and it really opened my eyes toward pursuing art as a full time career. It was one of the most amusing and inspiring things I'd have ever seen and I can still remember almost every detail of the painting he did and much of his dialog. He has since become a friend of mine."
A note on Dr. Frank Colombo:
Dr. Frank Colombo from Lynnfield, MA was my physician from the time I was a young boy until after I got married. We had a special relationship and mutual admiration. Frank has been very supportive of my career and a big fan of my work all these many years. In a recent email, Frank told me about his membership in LAG and its upcoming 50th Anniversary. It was Frank's enthusiasm for painting, art and the Lynnfield Art Guild that motivated me to "give back" to my early roots.
