Item Description

Let your inner cartographer roam free in this marvelous mapping mini-master class with map maker Tom Harrison for up to six guests.

Enjoy in-depth conversation about the different kinds of maps that have been used to describe the trails, facilities, and ownership boundaries of the Point Reyes National Seashore and the Phillip Burton Wilderness Area. Tom will talk about the research and field mapping methods used to make those maps, how to read a map, plan a route, use maps in the field and look at the kinds of maps that are being developed today, while also exploring the possibilities for mapping in the future. Tom will also discuss the use of GPS units, smart phones and other personal devices and how they fit into mapping both today and in the future. Whether you would like Tom to come and speak to your office, classroom, club, or organization, or if you would prefer a more informal chat with friends over lunch, he is happy to accommodate either situation and share his vast knowledge.

The winning bidder will also receive 25 of Tom's beautiful self-published topography maps, covering all of the Marin County plus many of California's National Park units, including Point Reyes National Seashore, Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Mohave and even Lake Tahoe.

Tom Harrison is an author and publisher of some of the best full-color, shaded-relief topographic maps for hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking in parks, forests, and wilderness areas in California. He holds a B.S. in Geography from Florida State University; and a M.A. Geography from San Francisco State University. He was a California State Park Ranger for seven years and has been a map publisher for over 30 years.

Any map lover would be lost without this priceless opportunity to learn from the veritable map master.
