Item Description
Great Palisade, a rock formation now called Palisade Head, is four miles north of Silver Bay on Minnesota's North Shore. The cliffs, accessible on foot from Hwy 61, tower 200 feet above Lake Superior. Palisade Head, a great spot for picking wild blueberries, is part of Tettegouche State Park.
This steel engraving was on page 401 of the 1872 book Picturesque America. The page was removed from the book many decades ago and hand-tinted with watercolors. The entire page has been preserved under the mat; it was mounted with acid-free tape. The frame is more than a century old.
Antique frame measures 12" x 15".
