Item Description
Looking for a true statement piece that celebrates your love for the North Shore? What could drop more jaws than a classic Lutsen Mountains gondola!? This piece of North Shore history will be the perfect addition to your collection. Use it as your new reading nook in your garden or install it in your man (or lady) cave.
The lutsen gondola was installed new at Loon Mountain in 1967. In 1988, this gondola was sold to Lutsen Moutnains and re-engineered for installation by Nils Ericsen, P.E. The Lutsen gondola opened for passnegers in January 1989 to provide carrying of passengers across the scenic views of Lutsen Mountain for winter recreation. Year round, it provides one-of-a-kind views of the West End of the North Shore.
The Lutsen gondola was manufactured by Pohlig, Heckel, Bleichert, of Cologne Germany, in partnership with Hall Ski Lifts (later Vol Roll, then American Tramways, now Doppelmyer-CTEC). PHB manufactured most of the lift, including the grips and other mechanical components, and Hall produced the cabins and possibly some other parts. The principal company of the PHB group was Pholig, which was active in the ropeway industry since the turn of the centruy. Pholig, and later PHB, together prduced 9,000 installations worldwide, including 75 gondolas.
Now, as Lutsen Mountains transitions to new, faster gondolas, you can claim a piece of history by making one of these classic fixtures your own!
