A Time Of Protest Suffragist Challenge The Republic: 1870-1887 authographed by the author, Sally Roesch Wagner
"We have greate cause for revolution than the men of 1776" was voiced by the suffragist as they illegally presented a Woman's Declaration of Rights at the country's Centennial celebration in 1876.
Radical suffragists were risked arrest, committe civil disobedince, refused to pay their taxes, ran a woman for President, and petitioned for their rights as citizens of the Republic. They protested the Statue of Liberty as a "mockery" at its unveiling in 1886
"Wagner's research chronicles the bold actions and testifies to the courageous spirit of women in the 19th century America...a reminder of the importance of commitment and determination so necessary for today."
Molly Murphy MacGregor, Executive Director, National Women's History Project
1988, paper, 134 pages
