The ring’s unique and original design form gives the butterflies the appearance of floating above the finger, while still providing a comfortable fit. The graceful sweep also allows some additional room for the ring to fit over a larger knuckle. The ring fits a size 9 ½ to 10 but can be sized by the artist. It can be worn on any finger although the artist enjoys the look on a forefinger.
“I have been so deeply touched by having a butterfly land on my hand and adorn my finger –it’s something I need to share. The butterflies represent an enduring love story. I wish to capture the butterflies and their romance in my art.” ~~Ruth
Item Special Note
The Process
The ring was designed and completely hand carved in the traditional wax method. The carving is then ‘lost-wax’ cast by the Ruth and her partner and fellow goldsmith, Ben Yospur. This is an ancient process of melting the original wax sculpture and replacing it with, in this case, 14 karat gold. The ring was hand finished by the artist. Ruth and Ben have never used computers, CAD cam, milling or forming machines to create their jewelry. To catch the eye with a sparkle, eight diamonds were hand set in the butterfly’s wings. The diamonds are completely natural, not treated in any way for color or clarity and are conflict-free. Ruth and Ben chose the color because they thought it to be a beautiful chestnut fawn brown and reflected the color of the butterflies in the polygonia species.
