Item Description

"What an amazing tour this afternoon. We won an auction with Constituting America for a VIP Tour with Ed and Cathy Gillespie. Even Cobey who really is not a George Washington "fan" was blown away. We started with lunch at Mt Vernon Restaurant. Great food and nice to be among like minded people. We then had a tour that included the cupola, basement and laying a wreath at George Washington's grave! It was topped off with the very nice goody bag. Wow! If they do this auction again next year you HAVE to bid!"

Carmen Ledford

Former Counselor to the President, Ed Gillespie and his wife, Constituting America Co-Chair, Cathy Gillespie - describe Mt. Vernon as "in our neighborhood." You will have lunch at the Mt. Vernon Inn Restaurant and also spend a few hours touring Mt. Vernon with this accomplished and wonderful couple.

"Discover the real George Washington at Mount Vernon!  In addition to being America’s most visited historic home, the estate now includes 25 interactive galleries and theaters. The Ford Orientation Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum & Education Center feature artifacts, original movies, hands-on exhibits, and an immersive Revolutionary War "snow" experience.   Learn about Washington’s life, from his boyhood to his wartime service, agricultural entrepreneurship, and his presidency.  Tour the beautifully restored mansion, four distinctive gardens, and get a glimpse of Mount Vernon’s working farm."

Item Special Note

Cathy Gillespie is active in a number of political and charitable organizations, serving on the Board of Visitors of Virginia State University, and the board of Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services. She has volunteered and raised funds for the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, Independent Women’s Forum, Foundation to Eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Histiocytosis Association of America, and the Susan B. Anthony List. She has served as a Commissioner on the President’s Commission on White House Fellows, a board member of Bishop Ireton High School and a Congressional Chief of Staff.

After 25 years on Capitol Hill and in politics, Cathy has come to believe that in addition to participating in the political process, we all must work to educate our children and re-educate ourselves about the principles embodied in the United States Constitution, and upon which our country was founded. Cathy believes we all must engage in “culture making,” in order to preserve and protect these values.
