Item Description
Take a canoe or kayak trip down the historic Fox River!
We offer two trips:
1.5 -2 Hour trip from Indian Trails Campground to the DNR Public Landing on the South shore of Swan Lake.
The first trip (1.5-2 hours) meanders down the windy Fox River through wetland habitat, grasslands, backwaters, and some wooded shorelines. Enjoy great wildlife viewing and bird watching. Once you are on the river you are out "into the wild". You may see sand hill cranes, blue heron, lots of fish, deer, muskrat, beaver, and watch for a pair of eagles as you enter Swan Lake. You'll navigate around and under a few fallen trees but will be able to paddle right on through. Stop on the sand bar and play for awhile where the Fox River spills into Swan Lake before making your way to DNR Public Landing on the South shore.
3.5-4 hour trip from Indian Trails Campground to the Indian Agency House
This trip includes the 1.5-2 hour trip above and continues down the Fox River at the west end of Swan Lake to either the wayside at Hwy 33 or 15 minutes further to where the Portage Canal meets the Fox River by the historic Indian Agency House. Take time to check out the birch bark and dug out canoes in the gift shop and tour the Indian Agency House before we pick you up. This section of river is wider and has some great shallow sandy bottom stretches which make great spots to stop and play. No trees to worry about, just nice open paddling. It's another wild stretch of river with very little civilization visible. You will paddle past the spot where in 1673 explorers Jacques Marquette and Louse Joliet make the short portage from the Fox River to the Wisconsin River.
Item Special Note
These are not guided trips. An orientation is provided along with transportation to and from the campground site. Gear is also provided. Expires 10/19/2016. Certificate can be mailed to winning bidder.
