ARTIST STATEMENT and RESUME
My inspiration comes from many years of painting on Cape Cod, Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard. The unique vibrant daylight filled with a palette full of colors, which I incorporate into my paintings. My roots on the Cape and the Islands as well as working with musicians give me a “soulful impression” of texture, color, and impact upon the creation of each canvas. I can often be found painting “en plein air” (creating paintings outdoors) on the Cape & Nantucket creating miniature paintings and painting pin jewelry to give people a soulful inspiration impression of our home, Cape Cod.
I am a graduate of the PA Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia, PA. PAFA was founded by in 1805 by painter and scientist Charles Willson Peale, sculptor William Rush, along with other artists and business leaders. It is the oldest and first art museum and art school in the United States. The Academy continues to be a cultural destination to audiences locally, nationally and internationally. PAFA’s origin dates from 1791, when Charles Willson Peale began his efforts to organize a school for the fine arts in Philadelphia. What resulted was the formation of the Columbianum in 1794. In 1795, under the auspices of that association, the first exhibition of painting in Philadelphia was held in Pennsylvania’s old state house, known today as Independence Hall. Cecilia Beaux, Mary Cassatt, Maxfield Parrish, Charles Sheeler, John Sloan, Charles Demuth, Arthur B. Carles, architect Louis I. Kahn, and filmmaker David Lynch are among those who studied at PAFA.
