Item Description
This artwork was created to celebrate Raju's one year anniversary of being a free elephant. There is a lot of texture in this original oil painting.
Ann Radley is a professional artist living in Vancouver Washington where she paints portraits, wildlife and other subjects from her home studio. She works in oil, pastel and colored pencil.
She has studied art in New York, France and London. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, drawing inspiration from the world class art collections. She began painting portraits by commission in 2002 while still residing in London.
Her art is focused the beauty of life - people, animals and their relationship. She frequently donates art to help organizations providing rescue and sanctuary to animals and wildlife under threat.
Inspiration for painting Raju
"I was inspired to paint Raju because I was horrified by his long years of suffering and determined that he would keep his dearly won freedom. It has been such a joy to see the photos of Raju beginning to heal, play and trust those around him. Long may he live in his happy home!
It is inspiring to see an organization such as Wildlife SOS work to educate, and challenge obsolete traditions. Their work not only involves pulling off a daring rescue, but navigating a complex legal system, and taking on the enormous financial burden of legal battles, and then providing medical care and safe haven to these animals for life.
It is an honor if my artwork can in some way support these efforts."
