When it debuted on Broadway, SPRING AWAKENING’s raw and honest portrayal of youth in revolt shattered expectations of what a musical could do, earning it 8 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, Best Book (for writer, Steven Sater) and Best Score (for composer, Duncan Sheik and for lyricist, Steven Sater). Deaf West’s innovative new production takes this already revolutionary musical to electrifying new heights by choreographing sign language into the production, intensifying the rift between the lost and longing teenagers and the adults who refuse to hear them. Directed by Michael Arden, Deaf West’s SPRING AWAKENING is full of knockout performances, explosive music and soul-stirring emotion, but it’s only on Broadway through January 24. 

About the Star:

Broadway starlet Krysta Rodriguez burst onto the scene in Good Vibrations and A Chorus Line’s 2006 revival before starring in the original casts of Spring Awakening, In the Heights, The Addams Familyand First Date. She was also featured on the second season of NBC’s musical drama Smash.

She earned acclaim last season with her performance in First Date and is currently starring in the moving revival of Spring Awakening.
