"A colorful children's book that introduces the principles of the Founding Fathers through the use of simple fables. Stories begin with a quote from a Founder, are followed by a beautifully illustrated fable, and conclude with age-appropriate discussion questions. Topics discussed include limited government, self-reliance, national debt, and more."

A "Mamie Eisenhower Library Project" Recommended Book; found on both "Constituting America" and "Advocates for Academic Freedom" Recommended Reading Lists.

We are very proud of Laurie Cockerell!  Please see her two other books on our auction, "The Miracle" and "Sam Houston."

"Laurie Cockerell was born and raised in Texas, receiving her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and her graduate degree from The University of Texas at Arlington. She taught in elementary school classrooms in Texas and Hawaii, and has worked extensively with children in church and other volunteer programs. Laurie also managed the domestic program of a large adoption agency located in Texas.

Laurie and her brother Travis (the illustrator) have collaborated on two books. The first, "Founders' Fables," introduces children to the principles of the founding fathers. Their second book, "Magnificent Sam: The Amazing Adventures of Sam Houston," is an award-winning children's picture book biography that details the life of General Sam Houston. Laurie has also collaborated with photographer Deanna Ford on the children's picture book, "The Miracle."

"Excellent resource for teachers and parents to teach complex issues such as Eminent Domain and Taxation to children. The book explains these concepts in a way that makes it fun for younger and older students to learn. It also has some questions categorized for younger and older students to stimulate discussion after each short story. This would be a great study guide for teachers and parents of home schooled children to teach topics that were important to our Founding Fathers and are very current in our society today.
Fun, catchy rhymes with great lessons!, October 14, 2010"

"I purchased this book as a curriculum supplement (I home school) and instead of stopping at the first story, my 7 year old wanted to finish the whole book the first day!! We now carry it in the diaper bag and read it whenever we're at a waiting room or waiting to pick Daddy up. :) Fun stories, catchy rhymes, memorable characters, and important patriotic lessons make "Founder's Fables" a must read for everyone (I know some adults who need to read it!)
Thank you so much Laurie for your amazing talent of presenting very deep lessons in fun rhymes that simplify the subject material for a child to understand!"

"Both my kids (10 yrs girl and 11 yrs boy) picked this book up and read it with no arm-twisting from old mom. When my daughter's friend was at the house one day, she read the first fable and we all had a chance to talk about it for a few minutes. Several times after that I heard the kids referring to it and talking about our government and debt. (They don't appreciate it, that's one thing I know!) This book contains 10 rhyming fables about our American founding principles. As fables, they each of course have a moral/lesson. We appreciate the discussion questions included with each one. All the pictures and pages are bright and eye-catching, matching well with each story. The rhymes are skillfully written; I was a little concerned about that before I got the book. But thank goodness, there are no contrived, unnaturally twisted sentences in a desperate attempt to just get that last word to rhyme!! No, it's really truly well done and a pleasure to read."
