Item Description

A quartet of superstar organ virtuosos perform exciting works that explore the sublime beauty, luminous textures and thrilling possibilities of the instrument, as part of Pacific Symphony's acclaimed American Composer Festival.

Guest artists are Christopher Bull, Paul Jacobs, Frederick Swan, and Craig Williams.

Christopher Bull has performed and recorded around the world, at venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Lincoln Center, the Cathedrals of Moscow, Saint-Denis and Salzburg, as well as rock clubs like The Viper Room, The Roxy and The Whiskey. The subject of a longtime study of highly gifted musicians, he improvised his first melodies on the piano at age five and gave his first organ recital at age 12.

“An obliterating performance by one of the major musicians of our time,” wrote The New Yorker’s Alex Ross about a recent concert by organist Paul Jacobs. The only organist to ever have won a Grammy, Paul Jacobs is known for his imaginative interpretations, extraordinary technical skills, and charismatic stage presence. He joined the faculty of The Julliard School in 2003, as one of the youngest faculty appointees in the school’s history.

One reviewer noted that Frederick Swann has probably presided over more ranks of pipes and stopknobs than any other organist in history. This s perhaps true given the size and prominence of the instruments with which his career has been notably associated.

Craig Williams is Organist and Choirmaster of the Cadet Chapel, United States Military Academy West Point, where he plays the world’s largest church all-pipe organ and directs the Cadet Chapel Choir. He is only the fourth organist to hold that position since 1910. Williams has been featured on television numerous times.
