Item Description

This collection is from the Postal Commemorative Society.

Volume I consists of the unique coins and stamps honoring the 25 states of the Union.

Volume II consists more unique coins and stamps for the remaining states. Also included in this volume are coins and stamps honoring our Nation's Capital, District of Columbia and the five U.S. Territories: Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; Guam; American Samoa; U.S. Virgin Islands; Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Each state was responsible for selecting the design that appears on the reverse of its unique coin. Though the obverse of each quarter features the same design the design itself is different from the one on quarters minted before 1999. To make room for each state's design on the reverse side of the coin. "United States of America" and "Quarter Dollar" were moved to the front. As a result, the profile of George Washington is slightly smaller and the inscriptions have been rearranged. The mintage year is included on the reverse.

These uncirculated coins are struck at the U. S. Mints in Philadelphia and Denver. The mintage period for each coin is limited to about ten weeks.

As seen on the pictures each state is honored on a different quarter dollar, and each coin is unique because the design reflects the individual state's history and culture. As a result, the complete collection offers a fascinating view of the people, places and events that have shaped America through the centuries.
