Item Description
So many women live in poverty, not because they lack abilities, but because they lack opportunity. We started Trades of Hope to give women that opportunity for a better life. Each woman has a story, and with Trades of Hope's help, their story has changed from pain and struggle to a story of HOPE!
We work with the artisans themselves and organizations that are helping women in difficult circumstances. Some women have been rescued from sex slavery. Others are raising handicapped children alone. Some are in war torn countries and others have AIDS. These women have never had the chances we've had, yet they are just like us in so many ways. They love their families and hope and dream of a better life for them.
This package includes:
- 1 Kancu Leaf Journal- Handmade paper fills this 5×6×1-inch hardback journal with button and string closure. It is made with real leaves in Nepal.
The future for the rural women in Nepal is far from promising. The majority of these overworked women are uneducated and underprivileged. They sorely lack self-confidence and due to the attitude of their society, they do not consider themselves equal with men. This fair trade group is empowering women as they teach entrepreneurship, health, training, and changing the attitudes/perspectives. These women gain a sense of worth by becoming self-reliant through creating these products.
- 1 Haitian Tin Ornament- You will get a touch of Haiti when you purchase these handmade ornament. It is created out of steel and has raised bead detailing, accented with a paper bead, and a beautiful red ribbon.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living in dire poverty. Out of the ashes of this sorrow, these people have found a way to handcraft these unique items, which provide for their families!
Approx. Measurements: Paper bead: 0.5 inches
Design measures roughly 3×2.5 inches.
Materials: Steel, Paper bead and Ribbon
- 1 Rose Infinity Scarf- Look brilliantly bold this season wrapped up in this beautiful scarf from India!
This group of Artisans was formed because many young unmarried women in remote areas of India were not allowed to leave their impoverished villages for work because of the conservative mindset. If they left, they often ended up in sweatshops or in the sex trade. Now through Fairtrade these women are empowered to be self-reliant, something unheard of in their villages. By making this scarf, they are stepping away from the mindset that women have no value and cannot take care of themselves. Now they are respected in their villages
- $15 Gift Certificate- Products can be purchased online here.
