Wine Profile

Tasting Notes

Based in Monterey County along California’s famed Central Coast, this talented winemaker blended fruit from a cool-climate vineyard along the Arroyo Seco riverbed with a small lot from a warm inland valley. The result: a stylish, delicious, classic California Chardonnay. Its fresh fruit aromas lead to flavors of apple, nectarine and ripe juicy melon. A hint of toasty oak and vanilla from oak aging adds depth and complexity, while a balancing acidity keeps it refreshing. When our expert wine panel first tried the 2013 Cannery Row Chardonnay, one of our wine panel hopped up on the table with a bottle of the wine in one hand and a copy of the book in the other. She began to read, “It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.” She then swigged the bottle and the panel passed it amongst themselves.

2013 Bayshore Vintners Pinot Grigio

This lovely wine from Bayshore is produced from one of the first vineyards in California planted with Pinot Grigio that originally focused on dessert wines. That is until a wine importer, seeing the potential for table wines, used these grapes to launch a line of food-friendly table wines.  Gorgeous aromas jump out of the glass and delicious flavors of melon, citrus and tangerine are completed by a refreshing thread of crisp acidity.

This lovely wine from Bayshore is produced from one of the first vineyards in California planted with Pinot Grigio that originally focused on dessert wines. That is until a wine importer, seeing the potential for table wines, used these grapes to launch a line of food-friendly table wines. Since this wine is notable for its gorgeous aromas and delicious flavors of melon, citrus and tangerine, and refreshing acidity, and it appears the winemakers were successful in making a fantastic food wine. It was hard to make out what our expert wine panel was saying about the Bayshore Pinot Grigio because they were wolfing down their meal alongside it like animals. “Paired correctly,” one expert managed through bites, “This is a…. Wine that makes… all food better.” The expert beside her nodded furiously, adding, “You won’t be… able to… stop eating!” We let them finish their meal and enjoy the wine in peace. Tasting Notes

Treat yourself to a brilliant European style Sauvignon Blanc warmed in the California sun, with crisp flavors of grapefruit and green apple with notes of fig. Fruit-forward and clean, this champion winemaker has made a wine special for all those white wine lovers in your life. There’s a slight aggressiveness to this wine, but it still effortlessly finds way to stay light. One thing our expert wine panel wanted to mention about the 2013 Spencer Family Sauvignon Blanc was its complexity. “It takes you on a bit of a journey,” one of the panel mentioned as she put down her glass. The others agreed. “You get the fruit up front, but that fig really sneaks up on you on the finish.” They sipped and nodded, each one enjoying the journey on their palate.
