About the Artist

In my work, I try and create "visual poetry", using a variety of styles- watercolor, mixed media, prints, collages. Some of my watercolors can be realistic scenes of the Hudson Valley where I live, or Maine, where I visit frequently, or trips to Europe. They can also be based on music or dance events. During these live performances, I make sketches, and then work these up into paintings, so they have a different feel to them than the realistic works. I get inspired by classical music and jazz, and by dancers energetically working up a sweat to communicate delicate themes like joy or sorrow, or any other human condition.

Many of my more abstract works come from those sketches I did in total darkness in theaters- I let my hand guide my ballpoint pen over the sketch pad. I also take photographs.

I do not have a simple straight forward repertoire, but constantly change and revisit earlier work. I feel that the medium has a lot to do with how I respond. Sometimes politics enters into some of my work, and fantasy definitely does, so, like I said, my work fluctuates greatly depending on my mood, subject, and my time in life.

I have been creating art for many years, and I am proud to say I keep getting excited and stimulated by continuous inspirations, and new techniques, to add to the established ones I am best known for.
