Item Description
Perhaps the greatest racehorse of all time, Secretariat joined a very exclusive club when he won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes in 1973 to become racing's ninth Triple Crown winner and first in a quarter of a century. It was his 31-length victory in the Belmont, his third straight record-setting performance, that made him immortal. Under Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte, who looked back in the lane to see where the competition was, Secretariat set the world record for a mile and a half (2:24) and did so with ease. Naturally, he was granted superstar status and became the first athlete, horse or human, to appear on the cover of national magazine TIME, Sports Illustrated and Newsweek in the same week. This is a full.complete and original TIME Magazine, proclaiming "Big Red" as a "Super Horse." Good condition, with slight wear on edges.
