Item Description
Have you ever wondered how our guide dogs get their names. Each litter of puppies that is born in our nursery is given a letter of the alphabet. When our puppy raisers are told there is a puppy ready for them, they are asked to think of a name that starts with the letter. For example, a puppy from the "T" litter could be named Tami, Tommy, Tahoe, Tori, Tyrion, etc. But, here is your chance to step outside those lines and name a puppy. You might chose to name the puppy to honor a family member, in memory of a cherished pet, etc.
In recognition of your donation, you will receive a Certificate of Naming. And, if the puppy completes the program, we will provide a graduation photograph of your dog.
Some restrictions may apply as not all names are suitable for guide dogs and active names cannot be duplicated. The guidelines for naming a puppy include:
- Appropriate Names:
- Names that are fairly easy to say
- Most two-syllable names
- Inappropriate Names:
- Names such as “Killer”
- Double names such as “Billy Joe”
- Names that end with sounds similar to “No” such as “Joe” or “Virgo”
