Basic Obedience

Basic obedience training is a good idea for any dog, but particularly for a dog about town. While your precious pooch probably won’t have a large yard to run in, he may very well end up accompanying
you while you shop. And it’s going to be nearly impossible to avoid confrontations with all sorts, both people and pets, on the city streets. That’s why it’s especially important that your dog has street smarts and learns to mind his Ps and Qs. In this class we will practice a scientifically proven teaching method that uses a marker signal that reinforces desired behavior. Also covered are basic commands such as LOOK AT ME, SIT, DOWN, ATTENTION, STAY, LEAVE IT, HEEL and COME.

Class size limited to 10 dogs. For dogs over 4 months.

Private In-Home Training

Life in New York City comes with its own set of challenges for dogs and their owners. But, despite what some may tell you, there is no one right way to train or treat your pet. Given the proper preparation, your dog can learn to adjust to your busy schedule and hectic lifestyle…he can even learn to love city life just as much as you do! Kate will work with you, in the convenience of your own home and neighborhood, to create a personalized training program just for you that take into account the unique needs and personalities of both you and your pet.

BIO
Kate Perry’s mission is to empower owners to develop happy and healthy relationships with their dogs that will last a lifetime. She specializes in hands-
on dog training in urban environments, using positive reinforcement to help owners enhance their relationships while taking into account the unique lifestyles, personalities and life-stages of both owner and pet. Kate aims to create a fun and loving atmosphere and a relationship of respect, trust and understanding in order to establish that strong bond between owner and pet.

Kate is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and a certified dog trainer with the Animal Behavioral College, where she also works as a mentor-trainer teaching students how to become trainers in their own right. Her philosophy and methodology, which have been approved by numerous veterinarians, centers on the use of positive reinforcement. She employs a scientifically proven teaching method derived from dolphin training that uses a marker (i.e. a “clicker” or use of the word YES) to reinforce desired behavior. This method helps dogs learn faster and better enables both dog and owner to enjoy the training process. One of Kate Perry Dog Training’s primary goals is to help reinforce the relationships between dogs and their owners.

Kate began her career by opening her own dog walking business in New York City in 1999 after recognizing that she has a natural affinity with animals. She was invited by Breon O'Farrell of Philosophy Dog Training to be his apprentice and studied intensively with him for two years, after which time she became the executive dog trainer for his organization. Whilst in this position, she helped develop the group classes that she now specializes in and which compliment the tailored, personal training approach she currently provides to her clients.

Kate grew up in the Canary Islands, Greece and England rescuing all kinds of animals, including donkeys rabbits, ducks, goats, cats, dogs and even a few fish. She has trained with dolphins in the Bahamas and has CPR certification. Kate is also a member and board advisor of the charity organization Rock and Rawhide in New York City.

Rock & Rawhide is a non-profit 501(c)3 which aims to increase adoptions and quality of life for dogs and cats in shelters, by providing distraction therapy and noise/stress reduction through the donations of toys, tough chew items, Kongs, Nylabones, bones, rawhides, blankets and more. If a dog is chewing, it's not barking! If a cat is playing, it’s not meowing! Less noise = less stress. In turn, dogs and cats can pass their evaluations at shelters, and show more of their personality, making them more adoptable.
